After months of getting quotes and researching options, I finally landed on the fence I wanted.
I chose 100% premium Western Red Cedar for its sustainable sourcing, good looks, and durability. The style is board-on-board for maximum privacy and curb appeal.
A few upgrades I added:
- Steel reinforced gate frame and support system, powder-coated in metallic bronze with a rust texture and semi-gloss finish (BR-47)
- Dual-sided keyed deadbolt and passage lever handle, color-matched to the gate hardware
- Trim-and-topper detail (looks incredible)
- 6x6 posts instead of standard 4x4 for extra strength, aesthetics, and longevity
- Pressure-treated Southern yellow pine retaining wall behind the fence due to grade differences
Installing a fence takes real coordination — decisions, permits, and conversations with neighbors and the municipality to sort out property boundaries. A Straight Up Fence did an excellent job, and I couldn't be happier with their craftsmanship. This fall, I plan to stain it a natural cedar color.
