Everglades Airboat Ride

Description

This had been a BUCKET LIST item of mine for as far back as I could remember — hoppin’ into one of those boats you see with a big-ass fan on the back and blastin’ off through the Everglades in the beautiful state of Florida! ☑️

There is a lot to learn about Everglades National Park. But the thing I found most interesting out of everything I learned from this adventure, was all the environmental impacts caused when US Highway 41 (Tamiami Trail - short for Tampa-to-Miami) was built back in the 1920s.

It essentially stopped the natural flow of water through parts of the Everglades by acting like a dam — leading to a lot of expensive ecological damage for future generations like mine to clean up the negative externalities. In recent years, there has been some restoration efforts focused on elevating parts of the road using bridges to help restore natural water flow and revive the Everglades ecosystem.

Pretty cool though, right?
