I live in Colorado — what is known as a headwater state. What that really means is I live in a state where at least one major river originates before it ultimately flows downstream into another state or region.
Shown above is where the Colorado River is held back behind a big-ass wall called The Hoover Dam creating Lake Mead. You can see the outflow of the dam in the top half of the video flowing southward.
I’m not here to say whether dams are a net-positive or negative — but they definitely have an impact on the environment.
